Ubuntu Update Manager

ubuntu-update-notifier-config

Does the new Update Manager in Ubuntu pop up more frequently than you’d like? If so, there is a simple solution to the problem.

Simply press <Alt>+<F2> to bring up a ‘Run Application’ dialog and type in “gconf-editor” without the quotation-marks, and press enter. This should bring up Gnome’s Configuration Editor.

On the left-hand side you’ll find a tree-list, and there you’ll want to browse to apps > update-notifier. Once you’ve done that, the right hand side should now look like the screenshot to the right.

If you would like to disable the pop-up altogether, untick the auto_launch option, otherwise you can change the number of days between notifications for non-security updates by changing the value of regular_auto_launch_interval.
